Overview of Teeth Whitening

One of the nicest finishing touches you can do during a smile makeover is teeth whitening. This is also a good choice for someone who has always maintained good oral hygiene but who may hesitate to smile because of discoloration or staining. Maniscalco Cosmetic & General Dentistry in Birmingham, AL has an array of cosmetic dentistry treatments available, including a variety of tooth whitening treatments.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that there is only one way to enjoy teeth whitening. As your chosen cosmetic dentist, we are happy to offer you several paths to a brighter and whiter smile. We use three very effective and proven systems. They range from in-office to take home treatments and include the Zoom!® whitening system, the Lumibrite treatments and the KoR Deep Bleach. It is best to discuss your goals with Dr. Maniscalco, and as your dentist in Birmingham, he can help you to make the best decision.

Before we look briefly at the teeth whitening available, it is important to understand that some patients may not be good candidates. This is because there are some forms of tooth staining that cannot be addressed through our modern teeth whitening formulations. In such cases, Dr. Maniscalco may recommend that you choose porcelain veneers, dental bonding or dental crowns to address this cosmetic issue.

Zoom! teeth whitening is an in-office treatment that takes less than 45 minutes to complete, using special dental trays, an LED light and the gel compound. We also send our patients home with trays to use to improve and prolong the results.
The Lumibrite option uses no bleach but also relies on trays, a special light and the gel that whitens the teeth. There are additional steps that must be done, including cleaning and treatments with other coatings, but this process takes only 30 minutes and the results last for months afterward.

The most potent form of teeth whitening we offer is through the use of the KoR® system that relies on a gel product that makes its way deep into the teeth, allowing the dentist to target some of the oldest and most resistant staining. This is also a lengthier treatment, and you will use at-home trays to prolong the whitening.

Which is the right solution for you? It all depends on your goals and needs, and the first step is to book a visit to discuss tooth whitening with our team.
