Are you completely satisfied with your smile? Unless you have already had cosmetic dentistry procedures, chances are that your answer to the question was “No.” Few people are gifted with a perfect smile, and almost everyone has something that they would like to see improved. If your teeth are chipped, misaligned or discolored, chances are you do not feel completely comfortable smiling, and that is very unfortunate, because a smile is the way you greet people – it is how you make that all-important first impression.

Fortunately, there are cosmetic treatments available that can improve almost any smile, and we offer a wide range at Maniscalco Cosmetic & General Dentistry in Birmingham, AL. Sometimes, all you need is a whitening treatment. Serious issues may require crowns or dental implants. There is also a full range of treatments that fall somewhere in between. The following are some of the procedures we offer.

Bonding

Chipped or broken teeth could need crowns, depending on the extent of the damage. Crowns are expensive though, and unless the goal is also to restore function, perhaps not the best course of action. As long as no more than a third of your tooth is missing, dental bonding could be a less costly alternative.

Bonding is a restorative treatment as well, so it will not just restore the appearance of your tooth, it will also give back functionality. It is a relatively quick and easy procedure, simply involving roughing up your tooth and then using an acid etch to clear away any dirt while also opening up tiny holes that cause the bonding compound to adhere. The bonding material, which is colored to match your tooth, is then shaped, cured with a special light, and polished. Bonding can be used to correct slight imperfections like gapping in addition to restoring a damaged tooth.

Inlays and Onlayscosmetic dentistry inlays and onlays

Inlays and onlays are also cosmetic treatments that are restorative as well. They will not fix catastrophic damage, but if it is just mild to moderate, inlays and onlays can be an alternative to crowns, implants or dentures. They are restorations that are created from either porcelain or composite resin, and colored to match the rest of your teeth. The difference between inlays and onlays is that inlays are placed on the cusps (pointy parts) of your teeth, and onlays are placed over several cusps.

Cosmetically, inlays and onlays can be used to correct chipping, or to replace old metal fillings. Dr. Maniscalco will prepare the damaged area, and then take impressions which will be sent to a lab. When the inlays or onlays come back from the lab, he will install them using a special cement, so you will have your smile back. Now all you have to do is maintain good oral hygiene so that they will last a long time.

Snap-On Smile®

What can you do if your teeth are discolored or slightly damaged, and you’re on a budget? A lot of people make the mistake of resorting to the cosmetic teeth that they can buy in a drugstore or online. True, they are budget friendly, but there are problems with cosmetic teeth. First, they hardly ever fit properly, no matter how carefully you follow the directions. Also, they break easily, and you will not be able to eat with them in place. And finally, they do not look natural.

There is a solution, though. Snap-on Smile® is made for people who cannot afford other treatments like porcelain veneers, or who simply do not want the permanence of something like veneers. They are custom-made from impressions of your teeth, so you know that they will fit properly. Also, you can eat and drink while wearing Snap-on Smile®. They give you the look of porcelain veneers without the expense or the permanence. Just take them out at night, keep them clean, and they will last you a long time.

Porcelain Veneers Cosmetic DentistryPorcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are thin shells made of porcelain that are anchored to your natural teeth. Traditional veneers are permanent. Lumineers® and Durathins® can be removed if desired. Porcelain veneers can fix discoloration, gapping, misalignment, and a gummy smile. For most patients, they can be a less costly alternative to dental crowns.

Invisalign®/Clear Braces

If you have bite problems, but find the idea of metal braces less than pleasing, you may be a candidate for Invisalign®, Clear Correct®, 6 Month Smiles®, or Red, White & Blue® Aligners. The first three options are suitable for most bite problems, and Red, White & Blue can be effective for minor issues.

Teeth Whitening

At Maniscalco Cosmetic & General Dentistry, we have three powerful weapons in our teeth whitening arsenal – Zoom!®, Lumibrite® and KoR™ Deep Bleach. Dr. Maniscalco can help you choose the option that best fits your needs and your lifestyle, so you will never have to worry about dull, dingy teeth again.

Smile Makeover

A smile makeover is any treatment, or combination of treatments, designed to give you the smile you want. As long as your dental health is good, you can benefit from a smile makeover. Whether you want just a whitening treatment, a full set of crowns, or something in between, we can give you the smile you deserve.
