Invisalign Orhtodontist in Birmingham
If you would like to transform your braces with clear aligners then our Invisalign dentist at Great Smiles Birmingham is the right choice for you. It is an almost invisible alternative to conventional orthodontic appliances. Instead of moving braces through pieces glued to the patient’s teeth, Invisalign uses sets of removable sequential trays called aligners. These aligners are virtually invisible and tailor-made for each treatment step to adjust your teeth step by step. The procedure is targeted at adults and consists of a mobile and transparent acetate (a tough plastic) tray, similar to that used in dental whitening.
Maniscalco Cosmetic & General Dentistry aims to serve people of Birmingham with best cosmetic and restorative treatments and specialized dentists. The goal of cosmetic dentistry is to improve the appearance of the mouth, teeth, and smile. While traditional dentistry focuses on preventing and treating oral diseases or oral hygiene. Like any other orthodontic procedure, the treatment will depend on the specificities of each patient’s case. Depending on the necessary correction, a change in treatment time may occur and also in price. Only after a consultation with a certified orthodontist, you can be sure of the costs involved, that is, the actual price of your treatment.
How Invisalign Works
Invisalign is the process used to straighten teeth as it involves clear almost invisible aligners. These aligners slip over the teeth to straighten them instead of visible metallic brackets gluing against the tooth. They are easily removable and offer the patient with numerous such aligners to wear and also to take home. In Invisalign treatment, the patient uses a transparent and mobile acetate (a tough plastic) tray, similar to that used in dental whitening.
These aligner trays are made up of virtually invisible and smooth plastic that is worn over teeth. It works to straighten your teeth by wearing the aligners that will slowly and gently shift your teeth into their place. The movements are planned for the exact position of teeth that your dentist may design before starting the treatment.
How Long Does Invisalign Take?
Treatment time depends largely on the type of orthodontic problem, but since only minor problems can be treated with Invisalign, the treatment time is also proportionally lower.
At the start of treatment, the patient already knows how many Invisalign aligners will be used in their treatment and will have an approximate idea of the duration of the treatment. Each aligner is usually used for two weeks, 22 hours a day. The comfort and ease of hygiene provided by Invisalign are unparalleled, by not using parts glued to the teeth and therefore do not use orthodontic wires. The patient has a comfort of being able to feed himself without any appliance in his mouth and can perform his oral hygiene without any additional difficulty.
Can Invisalign Fix Overbites/Underbites?
Invisalign can do all the things that braces can do. The only difference is that Invisalign pushes teeth instead of pulling, to move towards the exact position. Therefore, this treatment requires creativity with aligners to treat the impacted teeth. Aligners can be used to treat underbites and overbites but its overall results depend on the level of skills and experience of the dentist. As it cannot be combined with orthognathic surgery and found more successful for mild cases.
The aligners should be used constantly and should be removed only for eating, drinking liquids that compromise plaques, and doing oral hygiene. With each new visit to the orthodontist, the treatment is checked and if everything is going well, a new pair of aligners is given to the patient.
Can Invisalign Fix Gaps?
Invisalign braces or clear braces work really good to treat front gaps between teeth. These aligners are more recommended for straightening crooked teeth, fixing overbites, and filling gaps.
Invisalign® and Clear Braces®
If you have a bad bite, or teeth that are gapped or crowded, chances are you have thought about braces as a means of correcting your teeth. Clear aligners are a great alternative to metal braces, because they work in essentially the same manner, but they are far less noticeable and also more comfortable. You do not have to worry about metal bands, or wires that need tightening. Instead, you get all your aligners in the beginning, and you simply change them at home on a schedule determined by your dentist. Once your treatment is complete, be sure to follow our dentist’s aftercare instructions to maintain your straight smile.
Invisalign® and Clear Correct® Aligners
Invisalign and Clear Correct are quite similar, but have a few differences. Invisalign clear aligners have been around since the late ’90s, with Clear Correct coming onto the market approximately nine years later. Invisalign is a global company, but Clear Correct is American. The similarities outweigh the differences. Both are barely discernible, and are removable for when you want to eat or clean your teeth. Both are custom-fitted to your mouth, and require changing every 2-4 weeks. With either, the length of treatment will depend on the degree of correction required.
6 Month Smiles®
As you could probably tell from the name, 6 Month Smiles are intended to deliver correction in approximately six months. They are tooth-colored, so they are virtually invisible. This makes them ideal for people who are concerned not just with correcting their teeth over a relatively short period, but with looking good while correction takes place. They work in essentially the same way as ordinary braces, but they deliver less force, so they are not painful to wear.
Red, White & Blue Aligners®
These aligners are not actually red, white and blue – they are invisible. Red, white and blue are simply the color codes assigned to the three aligners that you will wear over the course of treatment. You start off with the “red” aligner, and finish with the “blue” one, plus a retainer.
These aligners were designed to deal with minor problems like a bit of spacing or crowding, so if you just need a bit of correction you can actually have it done in 2-4 weeks using Red, White and Blue Aligners.
Am I a Candidate for Clear Aligners?
Most people are good candidates for Invisalign, Clear Correct or 6 Month Smiles, and many are also well suited to Red, White and Blue. In some cases, metal braces may be needed. Dr. Maniscalco can advise you as to which solution would be best for you as there are pros and cons for each patient.
